What is the direction of our development? Where is the destination of humanity?
However advanced the setup of media and our communication methods are, and however much information we are provided, these tools cannot save us from the bias, prejudice, and oppression we imposed on ourselves and each other.
The ancients do not have as much information as we do now, but their love for knowledge and truth motivates them to explode and progress. It is the longing for truth that makes the difference. Technologies alone cannot save us from fear and prejudice.
Story of Look Back
Sometimes the information and thoughts circulated on the Internet, people are actually feeling tied by them. There should be more possibilities in this period of rapid development of network information. However, I found more unwritten rules these days and many of them are even unreasonable. This made me realize that maybe. no matter how the network technique develops, human society cannot step forward as long as they don’t open their mind. Modern people have too many misunderstandings about the ancients. They thought those ancients are the ones who were stubborn and ignorant. In fact, ancient people before Ming and Qing Dynasty in China were much more intelligent, courageous, creative, and curious about the world, the universe, and knowledge, which we are losing right now.
In the early days in China, people were eager to shake off the past and went through a period of extreme change. We make past taboos as if we had forgotten them and shackle ourselves, sometimes even beyond them. Virtual and real are full of unwritten rules that make it increasingly difficult to move forward.
To express my thought, I use ancient architecture in a bright and alive image to compare with the dark and damaged modern city. Saying we are the ones who are really tied.
In Meng-Hua…
I put Look Back behind the mountain to imply that this is a fact people try to forget, and many of them have already ignored it. But it still exists deep down in our hearts, so there would still be a place for Look Back in Meng-Hua.
The display screen I use to show Look Back in Meng-Hua added elements of the future, as well as the ancient architecture under the screen, these two things together is to mention us to accept the true past, so that we can make another step in the future.
